Space Coaster
Attraction Design Concept - Individual Project
Project
Inspired by recent developments in roller coaster technology and storytelling, I set out to draw storyboards for a space-based flying roller coaster.
I developed an experience where guests catapult into the cosmos on a sightseeing mission of outer space’s greatest treasures.
Storyboards
SCENE 1 | MISSION CONTROL
After all safety checks are complete, we are dispatched to Mission Control for final preparations. Here, Mission Leader Stacy and her team do their final checks and approve us for launch.
SCENE 2 | LAUNCH
Seeing sunlight, we roll over onto our backs and come to a stop at the base of the Electro Momentum Catapult. Then, with the whine of melodic electronics whirring to full strength, we launch out of Spaceport and towards the nearest star.
SCENE 4 | COMET FLY-BY
As we soar through the stars, we catch up to a group of comets, marveling at the beauty of the trails they leave behind before we head to our next destination.
SCENE 6 | SHIP CHECKPOINT
We catch our breath with a view of an outpost spaceport and hear from Mission Control that all is going according to plan. We just need to look out for some supernovas toward the end of our tour. We soar back into space once again.
SCENE 3 | SOLAR SLINGSHOT
We roll over as we break the atmosphere, now weightless in space. We sink into our seats as the star comes into view. We gain speed, narrowly avoiding a solar flare, and catapult into deeper space.
SCENE 5 | PLANET LOOP
Arriving in a new solar system, we pass through the rings of a nearby planet.
SCENE 8 | SUPERNOVA BLITZ
All is quiet, until suddenly... BOOM! As stars explode around us, we roll to avoid the supernova remnant. Before we get knocked off course, we catapult off again. With a blast of light and heat, we pass back through the atmosphere and we arrive back at Spaceport.
SCENE 7 | ASTEROID SLALOM
We weave between asteroids, even flying through one. With another boost, we launch to deep space for the tour finale.
